Bawer Doğanay

Bawer Doğanay was born in 1990 in Mardin. After graduating from the Painting Department of Mardin Artuklu University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 2018, he started his master's degree in the Painting Department at Dokuz Eylül University’s Institute of Fine Arts the same year. In October 2021, he held his first solo exhibition at Ferda Art Platform in Istanbul. He currently works and creates in Mardin. The figures in his paintings inhabit a fantastical world of ambiguous emotions, focusing on intimate, everyday moments in their lives. These individuals are depicted with a flâneur attitude, as researchers, debaters, and observers. The richly painted areas with oils, stone decorations, motifs, historical structures, plains, skies, and clouds come together to create a version of history painting that blends reality and fiction. The areas processed with a variety of colors contain design elements of both primitive and contemporary art. Influenced by the era he lives in, the individuals in his paintings are the main representatives of nihilistic and romantic behaviors.
