Georgina Gratrix’s playfully grotesque portraits and still lifes feature thickly impastoed surfaces, a bright, saturated palette, and expressive faces and figures. The Mexican-born artist, who grew up in Durban, South Africa, completed her BFA at the Michaelis School of Fine Art in Cape Town. In 2018, Gratrix was the recipient of both the Discovery Prize at Art Brussels and the Ampersand Fellowship Award. Gratrix has exhibited across South Africa and in Milan, Berlin, Miami, Los Angeles, and beyond.
