Eric Shaw

Eric Shaw’s kaleidoscopic canvases translate images between the digital and physical realms. The artist often begins painting on a digital sketch app, then transfers the elements to canvas with a mixture of glossy and matte paint. Shaw subsequently photographs the canvas and layers in more digital sketches and manipulations. The resulting works are multi-hued explosions of both gestural and mechanical forms. They evoke barcodes, hieroglyphs, and a distinctly 21st-century visual language. Shaw has exhibited in New York, Hong Kong, San Francisco, Brussels, Basel, Mexico City, Los Angeles, and beyond.
