Julio Le Parc

Arjantinli·1928–günümüz

Julio Le Parc’s experiments with geometric abstraction, light, and perception helped pioneer both Op art and kinetic art. Le Parc’s practice—which spans painting, sculpture, installation, and more—manipulates chromatic color palettes, negative space, and subtle interplays of light and shadow. Many of his works appear to vibrate; some literally comprise moving parts. Le Parc has embraced utopian ideals throughout his oeuvre. Along with artists including Hugo Demarco and François Morellet, he co-founded Groupe de Recherche d’Art Visuel (1960–68), which promoted art as a means of collective authorship and encouraged public participation. Le Parc has exhibited in New York, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Hong Kong, São Paulo, and Rome. His work has sold for six figures on the secondary market and belongs in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate, the Centre Pompidou, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museo Reina Sofía, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Buenos Aires, and the Museum Ludwig.
