Kevin Umaña
Kevin Umaña’s latest series of minimalist paintings focus on the comfort of rich patterns of his daily observations by establishing a solid foundation that tackles both color and design. Often drawing inspiration from the shapes and forms of everyday objects. While working with a wide assortment of materials such as, acrylic and latex paint, gouache, repurposed wood and linen. Umaña’s paintings feature hard-edge paintings with sharp contours and geometric shapes painted on flat areas of color. Through the use of flat regulated patterns, Umaña uses the paintings to draw attention to pictorial structures, organization and color balance. The idea of achieving the fundamental concept of a form, the concept of a structure and then addressing the painting so that the solid form has a clean context.
